De typiska danserna och danserna i Jalisco inkluderar son de la negra, skralldansen och särskilt jarabe från Guadalajara. Den senare har blivit den mexikanska nationaldansen.

Det finns olika teorier om den här dansens födelse. Vissa tror att det dök upp under revolutionen 1870 och andra under viceregalera, i slutet av 1700-talet.
Det finns också flera teorier om dess namn. Vissa experter påpekar att det kommer från ordet "xolot", av arabiskt ursprung, och att det hänvisar till en blandning av örter. Andra hävdar att det hänvisar till den sötma som dansarna visar.
Dansen är en representation av kärleksaffären mellan den mexikanska charro och den kinesiska Puebla.
Mannen är den som börjar woo henne och får avslag. Han insisterar igen och sätter sin charro hatt på marken. I slutet accepterar kvinnan hatten, tar upp den och täcker ansikten med den.

Son de la negra har nästan lyckats förskjuta jarabe från Guadalajara som den mest populära dansen i Mexiko.
Denna dans utfördes på Museum of Modern Art i New York, även om dess ursprung är mycket tidigare. Det är en av de mest typiska representationerna för mariachimusik.
Enligt etnologen Jesús Jáuregui ligger dess rötter under perioden efter mexikansk oberoende, även om element har lagts till tills de når den representation som är känd idag.
Enligt en del forskning är det en kärlekssång som ägnas åt Albina Luna "La negra", en kvinna född i Tepic 1911.
När hon dansar, tar kvinnan på sig en färgad kjol, medan mannen bär en skjorta och filtbyxor.
3- Ormen
Denna dans har ett ursprung som går tillbaka till pre-spansktiden. Det noteras att ursprungsbefolkningen i området utförde en liknande dans under sina ceremonier och betraktade ormen som en gudinna för fertilitet.
Den första skriftliga hänvisningen till denna dans finns i verk av friaren Francisco Ximénez, 1722.
Historien som den representerar är den av vissa bönder som kommer för att försvara kvinnor som är rädda av ett orm av ormar.
Först undviker de attackerna från djuren med sina hattar, men i slutändan bitas de och dör i kvinnornas armar.
4 - Handflatan dans
Denna dans är nära besläktad med religiösa fester. Det utförs vanligtvis under festligheterna i Zapopan-helgedomen.
Dess ursprung, även om den har en del inhemska influenser, är spansk och är mer än 300 år gammal.
Namnet kommer från fansen av fjädrar som dansarna bär och som flyttar till rytmen i musiken. Ibland kan det ersättas av ett kors.
Dansarna bär tinnhuvudbonader och blanka kostymer. Instrumenten som används är skaller och fiol.

Denna dans har sitt ursprung i kommunen Tuxpan, även om den idag har spridit sig över hela staten.
Det finns dokumentation från 1872 som berättar hur ett gäng med skaller bildades efter ett inhemskt uppror.
Dess övning är kopplad till religiösa fester, speciellt de som är hängivna Saint Johannes Döparen.
Namnet kommer från skaller som följer med dansarna och att de låter under föreställningen.
Det kan vara käppar med småsten inuti eller snidade trasor med tennhjul inlagda i dem.
