Porunn är en karaktär i History Channel-serien Vikings, en tjänare och framtida partner till Björn Ragnarsson. Det är inte lätt att spåra Þorunns namn i de norska sagorna. Faktum är att de få existerande källorna nämner att det är den kvinnliga rösten till guden Thor, vars betydelse är "åska". Det finns också härledningar av detta namn, till exempel Thorun eller Torunn. Thorunn, som hade ett norrmänt namn, kunde ha fångats i ett krig eller till och med fötts i fångenskap.
Synen på vikingasamhället har varierat kraftigt under åren. För vissa skulle den dominerande karaktären i dem vara hänsynslös, även om andra kan hänvisa till dem med ord som de "vänliga" vikingarna.

Fångad för att vara slavar
Vikingatraktioner i vissa områden i Östersjön eller Finland tillät dem att fånga kvinnor, kidnappa dem för att användas som arbetare, konkubiner, kockar eller ibland också att gifta sig med dem.
Aslaugs slav
Detta skulle vara fallet med slaven Þorunn, som vi i vikingserien vet att han arbetar för Aslaug. Eftersom vikingarna var polygam, var det vanligt att de fångade kvinnliga slavar lätt kunde bli deras fruar.
Annals of Ulster
Skriftliga källor bekräftar dessa bortföringar. I The Annals of Ulster, kroniker som ger information från år 431 till 1540, läses det tydligt att vikingarna fångade ett stort antal kvinnor nära Dublin, i Irland, cirka 821.
Det som kan läsas i vissa källor hävdar att vikingas slavar, som Thorunn, fick en bra behandling eftersom de krävde nödvändigt arbete, det vill säga att de kunde göra mycket bra i köket och till och med ta hand om barn. På gårdarna hjälpte de till med alla slags uppgifter och de brukade vara ägarens älskare.
Slaveri
Under vikingatiden kunde en kvinna också bli slav om hon begick ett brott och inte hade pengar att betala för brottet. Eller om hon kontrakterade någon form av skuld kan hon också bli slav.
Transaktioner, som i serien, var ofta, och det var normalt för vissa mästare att köpa slavarnas frihet. Så här betalar vikingarna Aslaug för Þorunns frihet.
Äktenskap som affärsavtal
Det vanliga äktenskapet under vikingatiden var mellan människor i samma sociala klass, en fråga som Björn tar hänsyn till i serien. Fackföreningarna betraktades som ett kommersiellt avtal, ibland för enkelhets skull och till och med för att undvika konfrontationer mellan kungariket. Fallet med Þorunn i serien är slaven och en kärlek som inte kan gå längre eftersom samhället anser det vara tabu.
Þorunn i vikingserien
Säsong 2
Den här säsongen är det en middag som Ragnar har kallat. Där verkar Thorunn ha haft ett litet missöde med Björn när han lägger en öl på henne. Sedan närmar sig Björn henne igen och frågar henne var hon sover och hennes namn.
Han frågar henne också om hon har en pojkvän och hon svarar ja, i en spottande ton. Även om Ragnar är lite orolig över sin sons önskan att flirta, är Aslaug den som skjuter bort sina bekymmer genom att säga att tjejen åtminstone är vacker.
Björn berättar senare om han vill sova bekvämt hemma, men Þorunn är inte säker. Han vill inte tvinga henne, han föredrar att hon väljer själv utan press. De går äntligen hem och hon klär av sig. Det är i alla fall inte klart om de har sovit tillsammans eller inte.
Förälskad i Þorunn
Þorunn är en slav och ligger under Björns skick; inte av den anledningen slutar han att bli kär i flickan. Lathgertha inser sedan att hennes son har avsikter om något annat med flickan och frågar om vilken typ av relation de har; Björn säger att hon bara är en tjänare även om hon gör det klart att hon älskar henne.
Björns avgång till England gör att Thorunn kan ägna sig åt svärdträning på stranden. Då vill Aslaug veta vad Thorunn gör som hon svarar att hennes önskan är att vara som Lathgertha. Hon, kanske upprörd, undrar varför många vill se ut som Björns mamma.
Tvivel om Duorunn och försoning
Thorunns känslor är oklara. Hon är inte säker på att hon älskar Björn, och han blir upprörd eftersom han har varit van vid att ha alla slags tjejer.
Då ber Björn om ursäkt och de utmanar till en duell i skogen. Där kämpar de länge, även om hon springer av vid någon tidpunkt och han lämnar sig bakom, allt för att avsluta, försona och förälska sig i skogen.
Säsong 3
Efter Þorunns träning med Lathgertha beslutar han att gå med i Ragnars armé på en kampanj för Wessex. Björn är orolig och fruktar för hennes säkerhet, även om hon är en mycket kapabel och orädd krigare. Det finns en möjlig graviditet som senare kommer att bekräftas och därför är Björns oro. De argumenterar också om det flera gånger. Sedan ber han henne att gifta sig med honom.
Under slaget slås Thorunn hårt och slås medvetslös. Björn räddar henne men hennes far Ragnar berömmer honom med tanke på att en gravid flicka inte skulle behöva vara i en sådan kamp. Då ser hon väldigt ner och avvisar flickan som är född.
En vacker dotter
Siggy är född, en vacker och frisk dotter. Þorunn förblir ändå nedslagen och ledsen, en fråga som Björn inte förstår, eftersom hon berättar för honom att han älskar dem båda, henne och hennes dotter, och att hon måste bli frisk och gå ut för att må bra.
Det verkar inte så bra för att Þorunn och Björn slutar ha sex. Det är då Björn hittar Torvi och de går med i en passionerad kyss. Han erkänner att även om allt som hänt, han älskar sin fru.
Þorunn berättar för Aslaug att han inte vill ha sin dotter, ber honom att ta hand om henne. Aslaug berömmer henne för att vara självisk, eftersom det hon gör inte är rätt med tanke på att Björn älskar dem båda.
